More Information

The elements of a coat of arms

We have created a wide range of graphics to enhance your family tree chart and to use in your own documents and projects. What you see here are a selection from the 50,000 plus descriptions (blazons) that we have.

The cost is only 5.00 for a hi res jpg.

The jpeg images are between 1.5 - 2Mb, will print full size A4 at 300 dpi and are sent to you by email within 24 hours of order.

If you cannot find a design for your name it generally means that we have not yet created the graphic for it. Email us requesting the name and place that your ancestor came from and if the definition is in our database we will create the graphic for you and let you know when it has been published on the site - usually within a few days. There is usually more than one coat of arms for a name as coats of arms are not granted to families, only to individuals. The entitlement to a coat of arms lies solely with the individual to whom it was granted and to their descendants through the male line. Therein lies the problem of knowing which coat of arms, if any, you are entitled to display or indeed if any of your ancestors were granted the right to bear arms. You can contact the College Of Arms in the country where your ancestors originated and for a fee they will search their records to check if there was a coat of arms granted to your ancestor. But in practice how many of us can truly trace our ancestry back to that one individual who was granted the right to bear arms perhaps centuries ago. Unless we can conclusively prove our genealogy the best that we can do is to select a design that appeals to us but may well have no association with our ancestors. There is nothing to stop you enjoying your chosen design for decorating genealogy charts and other projects but please do not claim that it is your personal or family coat of arms and treat it for what it is - a decorative graphic.

Please enjoy this site and bookmark it for a revisit as we are continually adding new graphics.
