This page provides hints and tips to help you complete the stickers for our Creative, Creative Parchment, Heirloom and Renaissance charts.

IMPORTANT: Any templates are provided "as is" and without any warranty. You use them entirely at your own risk.
We do not provide support on how to use your Word Processor software. If you require assistance on using your Word Processor software you should contact your support person or contact the supplier of the software.

1. Test Print Your Stickers To Plain Paper

We recommend that you test print your stickers to a sheet of plain paper to check alignment and the accuracy of the information before printing the stickers.

To test the alignment of the stickers download the pdf template for the sticker sheet and print it on your printer. Set Page Scaling to None in the pdf print options before printing. You can then overprint this page with your stickers to check that the stickers are correctly aligned within the template boxes.

2.  Add A Background Colour To Stickers

If you want a coloured background on your stickers you should add it to the full page of stickers and not to individual stickers. If you add the background to individual stickers then your paper will need to be perfectly aligned in your printer to ensure that the colour prints across the complete sticker. Even a shift of less than 1 mm will leave a white border on one or two edges of the sticker.

The examples below are for Microsoft Word 2007 and Word 2003. If you are using a different word processor its help system should give full instructions.

Word 2007 page colour Microsoft Word 2007

Under the Page Layout tab select Page Colour then select the colour or fill effect that you require.
Word 2003 page colour Microsoft Word 2003

Under the Format tab select Background then select the page colour or fill effect that you require.

3.  What Size Fonts

Fonts for Sticker Charts You can use any font that is installed on your computer but be aware that some fonts require more space than others so you may need to experiment.
The example shows that using a Times Roman or Arial font at 11 point will give 4 lines on the 38.1 x 21.2 sticker and that by reducing the size to 10 point for names and 9 point for other information you can display a total of 5 lines.
The second set of fonts are Lucida Calligraphy which requires more space. The size required for 4 lines is 10 point. For 5 lines 9 point is required for names and 7.5 point for other information.
You can of course use any colour for fonts.

4. I Can't See The Sticker Box Guideline

The guidelines are a non printing outline shown in your word processor document around each sticker. They are generally a thin blue dashed border and if you can't see it you will need to enable the "Show Guidelines.

The examples below are for Microsoft Word 2007 and Word 2003. If you are using a different word processor its help system should give full instructions.

Under the Home tab select Borders then select View Guidelines.

5. Insert A Picture Onto A Sticker

You are not limited to just typing text onto a sticker - you can also add photographs and other graphics.
However you should not pint photographs on the transparent stickers as photographs and most other graphics rely on a white background for the correct rendering of colours. If you print on a transparent sticker then the graphics will show the background colour of the chart in all the areas that should be white.

To insert a picture in Microsoft Word: -

  1. Click where you want to insert the picture.
  2. On the Insert menu, point to Picture, and then click From File.
  3. Locate the picture you want to insert.
  4. Double-click the picture you want to insert

6. Enhancing Pictures

Enhancing Pictures Once you have inserted a picture in the sticker template you can then enhance and manipulate it. The example was created using Microsoft Word 2007 Picture Tools. If your word processor has limited tools for enhancing pictures you can modify your picture in a graphics editing program before inserting it.

7. Modifying Creative Parchment and Renaissance 72 x 63.5 mm Stickers For Your Information

The two example templates for the Creative Parchment and Renaissance stickers use tables to display additional information for siblings, 2nd marriages etc. These can be modified to suit your own information by adding or deleting rows and changing the number of columns. You can also change the background colour of the table and in the case of the Creative Parchment sticker, the background colour of the page (see FAQ 2 above).

Modifying Creative Parchment and Renaissance Stickers This example is for Microsoft Word 2007

Place your mouse over the table that you want to change then Right Click. The Table menu will pop up allowing you to modify the table to your requirement.
