Subject : Re - Elizabeth Ruddction. I can't prove that I'm descended from Elizabeth Rudd at the moment, but I believe she was my gggg grandmother. I know my GGGG grandfather was Samuel Dady, who lived in Dunston, Norfolk, and I know he had 4 children born there from 1814. The family are listed in Dunston in censuses from 1821, and a later census return shows my GGGG grandmother listed as Elizabeth Dady, born Thelton/Thelveton c1778. I found a marriage between Samuel Dady & Elizabeth Rudd in Thelveton 4th Feb 1805. I can't find another Samuel & Elizabeth Dady anywhere... so I think these are my GGGG grandparents, but the only difficulty is that the marriage is 9 years before the first known child. However, in 1821 there are 2 people in the household unaccounted for (1821 returns only list the number of males & females plus the name of the householder)... in 1821 we know that there would've been Samuel, Elizabeth and children John, Emily & George.. but the return listed a further male and female. I have thought that perhaps these were older children who had left home by the time later censuses list occupants' names. The fact that we know Elizabeth was from Thelton supports the theory that the 1805 marriage was hers, and I've been working on that assumption. I know nothing more of Elizabeth's family. Let me know if you recognise this Elizabeth Fiona

hn's birth, plenty of time to have about 4 children, the eldest of whom could've been working away from home by then (marriage is, perhaps, less likely.... the eldest would only be about 15 or 16 at most).
Dear Terry, king the recent 1851 addition to Ancestry), and I also came to the same conclusion that this was probably one of Samuel & Elizabeth's older children. It certainly helps as reassurance that my assumption that Samuel and Elizabeth are the couple married in Thelton is correct. Given the 16 year gap between their marriage and the birth of John in Dunstan, I suspect there were a number of children before John, but that only the Dunstan-born children plus 2 others were still living at home by the first census we have (1821). I've found no other Thelton/Thelveton Dadys in the 51 census... so perhaps they had a few older daughters.own the Thelton church records, as this would surely answer many of the questions on Samuel's family (and perhaps even help locate earlier generations)... unfortunately, Samuel was dead by the time of the 51 census, the first to specify the individuals' birthplaces... so all we know is that he was born in Norfolk.fter 5 years' sickness, so though I now have the cash for trips to Norfolk, I no longer have the unlimited free time... so I don't know when I'll get the opportunity.....If only some kind soul would transcribe the thelton registers on the net!

Subject: Rudds and Dady
Hi Fiona,s been solved. I have found in the 1851 census for St Pancras in London a Samuel Dady born abt. 1812 in Thelton Norfolk. He is probably the male unaccounted for in the 1821 census for Dunston and the son of Samuel and Elizabeth. Samuel was married to Susan and they had two children living with them in 1851.
The extract from the census is: -
Samuel Dady - Head - age 39 shoemaker b. Thelton Norfolk
Susan Dady wife age 36 b. Chelmsford Essex
Susan Dady daughter age 2 b. St Pancras Middlesex
George Dady son age 4 - . St Pancras Middlesex
Address 50 Little Albany Street St Pancrasamuel (Snr.) and Elizabeth lived in Thelton/Thelveton from 1805, when they married, up to about 1813/14 when they moved to Dunston. The missing female in the 1821 Dunston census was also probably born in Thelveton between 1805 1813 as the first Dady christening in Dunston appears to be John in 1814 - another thing to check on my next visit to the Norfolk Records Office.
If I come across anything else Ill forward it on to you.e for Samuel and Susan?
Kind regards - Terry

Dear Terry, zabeth must've been daughter of Zachariah & Mary, as her age and birthplace are listed on the census (assuming she is the woman of the Dady/Rudd marriage). Unfortunately, we have no definite birthplace for Samuel, as he had died before the 1851 census, which was the first to list birthplaces (we do know he was born in Norfolk, but that was a given anyway, as the Dadys are all from Norfolk... I think possibly French in origin, but they seemed to settle in Norfolk and nowhere else. Apparently a Dady was amongst the first American settlers in the initial fleet). I believe Samuel may have been born in Thelton about 1780.ing there to Samual Dady, I feel pretty sure that my Elizabeth was a Rudd.... if you happen across any Dady births 1805-1814, this may help to establish the proof (though of course they may never have lived there and just married there because it was her parish).. I just feel that earlier children should be around if they did marry in 1805, as a 9 year wait to start a family seems unlikely.ped to establish proof.sus index on disk if you need anything looking up.
I've opened up my tree to view on the GR site
